The Vršič Pass is the highest mountain pass in the Julian Alps, located in Slovenia. It is considered one of the most challenging and scenic road climbs for cyclists. It is known for its countless number of hairpin bents, and was one of the first mountain-passes where they started numbering these bents, so if you know at which bents the peak is, you always know how many bents you still have to go… not sure if that is a good thing for everyone, tough.
But the climb is not too steep, and not too long, so very accessible for every cyclist. On certain weekends during the holiday season, it can be busy with cars and campers.
Vršič Pass was built by Russian prisoners of war during World War I, and is the highest pass in Slovenia.
The surrounding area is home to a variety of wildlife, including deer, chamois, and eagles, making it a popular destination for nature enthusiasts.
